Pretoria - Music producer, DJ and podcaster Da Kilms has emphasised the importance of collaborating with other like-minded individuals in the industry.
To illustrate this point and practise what he preaches, Da Kilms singled out three collaborations off his upcoming project, Pure Sothofied II EP as his most powerful. On each of them, he collaborated with other producers.
He teamed up with Pretoria-based producer DJ Edit SA and his Free State “home boy” LimmBeatz on Unity is Power, track number 4 on the EP.
Likho Sen and Moscow join him on Hlakoana and Khotso-Ntso respectively.
And to quote from Da Kilms, these are his best and favourite tracks on the EP.
“It’s been long time coming. I have always been looking forward to work with these guys, and what drew me to them was that they are all hard workers like me and bring out quality whenever they step into the studio,” he said.
“Both DJ Edit SA and LimmBeatz are my favourite producers; I’m talking about hard workers here.
“The title of our joint-single Unity is Power is actually a message to every artist out there that if we do more collaborations, or if we unite, we could make a huge success from our music.”
Da Kilms was born Lebohang Petsane and is based in Ficksburg, Free State.
The 24-year-old comes from a very musical family. He is inspired by some of the biggest names in the industry such as Da Capo, Caiiro and Prince Kaybee.
“I used to listen to hip hop and reggae, but most of the time it has been reggae on my playlist. I wanted to become a singer when I was young, but as time goes I found myself interested in producing.
“With the influence of producers whose music I had been rocking to over the years, I started learning production and decided to come up with my own sound.”
Regarding his EP, he said he gave it the title Pure Sothofied because he wanted to introduce his culture through his music.
“I always say Afro is my culture; in fact, it’s our culture; so with this project that’s where I introduce myself and my culture as a whole through my music.
“This is the second edition of the EP and my followers must be prepared to dance; they must expect nothing but quality. This is for summer and for a great dance floor session.
“I have my team all set for this release, and every day we try by all means to reach new audience for the EP to have a huge hype on its release day (September 23).
“To my fans, in the coming months they must expect a single from Nakedsoul and I, then another one with Bayathetha hitmaker Bathabile (Kananelo Makhalanyane). Release dates will be confirmed soon.”
