Thabang Ntuli, the Miss International South Africa creative director from Pretoria, is making waves in the pageant industry with his innovative approach and vision.
As a member of the LGBTQIA+, he is a driving force behind the empowerment of women and celebration of individuality in the pageant industry.
He said his passion for the beauty pageant industry was ignited by the transformative power it provides in terms of empowerment and self-expression for women.
“Growing up, I was fascinated by the confidence, charisma and grace of beauty queens and I wanted to be part of a platform that celebrates and nurtures these qualities,” he said.
He said his journey with Miss International South Africa began when he recognised the organisation’s commitment to empowering women beyond beauty, focusing on leadership, community service and growth.
“I was drawn to the organisation’s values and mission which aligned with my own passion for empowering women and making an impact,” he said.
Ntuli added that his passion for empowering and self-expression is rooted in his experiences as a gay man in the industry.
“Growing up, I struggled to find representation and acceptance in the beauty and pageant industry. Now, as the creative director of Miss International South Africa, I am committed to using this platform to break down barriers and celebrate diversity. I aim to create a platform that not only crowns a winner but also empowers women to become confident, passionate and purpose-driven ambassadors of South Africa,” he said.
Throughout his work, he empowered numerous women, guiding them to unlock and realise their potential.
He said his approach is characterised by a fusion of artistry, storytelling and emotional connection.
“I draw my inspiration from various sources, including global cultural and social movement, cutting edge production technologies and collaborations with diverse creative minds,” he said.
He has collaborated with renowned brands, walked international runways, and appeared in major campaigns, but his greatest satisfaction comes from witnessing the profound impact that pageantry and modelling can have on a woman's life.
Speaking to Pretoria News, he said one memorable moment was when he led the South African team to the Teen Universe pageant in the Dominican Republic, North America.
“Witnessing our delegate shine on the international state embracing her true self and confidently showcasing her talents was truly unforgettable,” he said.
Ntuli further said that although he no longer renders services for Miss Teen Universe, the experience will always be a highlight of his career.
“I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have made a meaningful impact on the lives of young women in this country,” he said.
He also said throughout his career, he has encountered challenges including facing betrayal from people who did not share his commitment, integrity and honesty.
“As an honest and principled individual, I have sometimes found myself at odds with others who prioritise personal gain over ethical considerations, however I have never allowed to compromise my values or deter me from my goals,” he added.
Ntuli’s message is simple yet powerful: “Empowering women, enriching lives,” he said.
He aims to keep inspiring others through his creative direction by showcasing beauty, diversity, and inclusivity. His focus is on highlighting the strength and resilience of women while encouraging self-expression and authenticity.
“To aspiring creative directors and those looking to break into the industry, stay true to your artistic vales, embrace collaboration, continuously push boundaries and foster a culture of inclusivity and respect,” he added.
