CAPE TOWN – THIS Women’s Month, Nia Africa will celebrate its Joy of Movement campaign in aid of Cansa.
They will host special Nia classes every Saturday in August.
Nia Africa offers both cardiovascular and whole-body conditioning through its programme, which incorporates elements from dance, martial art, healing arts and culminates in a workout that is adaptable for all ages and fitness levels.
The aim is to raise funds for Cansa and create awareness around regular exercise and physical activity, which plays a major role in living a balanced lifestyle. This also reduces the risk of cancer.
Certified instructor for Nia Africa, Mia Steyn, said they believed in every person, who couldn discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a healthy and meaningful life by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies.
“Each workout combines mindfulness and dynamic movement. (This will) leave you energised, mentally clear and emotionally balanced,” she said.
Proceeds from the campaign will help Cansa promote cancer awareness, through health campaigns and education on the importance of early detection, through community screenings at Cansa care centres across South Africa.
They also make use of funds to develop and promote tools such as the lifestyle risk assessment tool, which educates the public on how to lower their cancer risk and live a balanced lifestyle.
Cansa’s national corporate relations and sporting events manager, Leillani Geduld, said events like these were important.
“The much-needed funds assist Cansa to continue with care and support programmes and education and awareness programmes in all our communities across South Africa,” she said.
