Visiting the SunSquare Cape Town Gardens in Gardens (in the CBD) was a pleasant surprise.
The hotel is very under-the-radar, likely due to its sister location on Buitengracht Street getting most of the focus, but from what I could see it certainly didn’t make it any less popular.
This was corroborated by General Manager Richard Keet who informed me that the hotel has a high occupancy rate during the week, through to the weekend, and also that a lot of their international guests are very well-acquainted with the hotel, while the general local public isn’t.
While locals may not be familiar with the SunSquare Cape Town Gardens, they certainly have made a connection with their guests who know of them because the comfort it offers is more akin to that of a sanctuary.
The hotel is an all-inclusive urban retreat offering sanctuary to everyone— humans and pets - that can enjoy a memorable stay.
Whether you’re in Cape Town for business or leisure, the pet-friendly rooms and heated pool ensure that your visit will be both enjoyable and unique.
With 136 well-appointed en-suite rooms, including Standard Rooms, Family Rooms, and spacious King Bed Suites, SunSquare Cape Town Gardens caters to a variety of needs and preferences.
Families will appreciate that two kids under 18 can stay free when sharing with adults, and breakfast is included in the room rates, making it a great value option.
Another bonus is the hospitality that was on display, whether you are keen to speak to the hotel staff because you are travelling alone, or prefer a trip of solitude.
SunSquare Cape Town Gardens staff were extra attentive and warm to their guests, and that connection extended to the staff who have great rapport with one another.
You don't ever want to feel like you're walking into a stale environment when you visit a hotel, and SunSquare Cape Town Gardens is the opposite of that.
The hotel’s location is perfect for those looking to explore the best of Cape Town. A short 15-minute drive takes guests to Camps Bay beach, the iconic Table Mountain cableway, or the bustling V&A Waterfront.
For business travellers, the hotel offers self-service workstations, professional services, and four adaptable venues that can accommodate up to 120 delegates, with easy access to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
SunSquare Cape Town Gardens pioneered Southern Sun’s SunPet pet-friendly accommodations in 2022, earning the distinction of being the first pet-friendly hotel within the Southern Sun group.
The hotel has thoughtfully converted several rooms to accommodate pets. These pet-friendly rooms feature hygienic vinyl flooring, ensuring both comfort and practicality for guests and their pets.
For an additional surcharge of R250 per room per night, SunPets receive VIP treatment. From a welcome treat on arrival to plush pet bedding and access to a variety of bowls, mats, and toys, every detail is designed to make pets feel at home.
A very cool feature of SunSquare Cape Town Gardens is its heated pool, offering guests the luxury of taking a dip any time of the year.
One family took advantage of the limited sunshine Cape Town offers at this time of year, and went for an early morning swim. The pool was a hit for them as they continued lounging and swimming for most of the morning. While the parents managed to have one-on-one time, the kids were happily occupied. When the father later joined his daughter in the pool, each parent could have bonding time with one of their children.
While seemingly insignificant, sometimes those small moments of touching base with loved ones can make all the difference, and as trivial as it may sound, the pool definitely played a part in facilitating these bonding moments
Another standout was the Zepi Grill & Bar restaurant which offered an exciting dining experience for both hotel guests and locals.
The menu focuses on fresh seasonal ingredients with a rotating menu of delicious and hearty home-style South African and international meals along with a vibrant ambience in a lovely setting in both day and night.
It made for a lovely environment to have an evening dinner, and also a morning breakfast.
