Cape Town - Cape Town has once again made the list in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards for 2015.

This year the Mother City comes in at Ninth Best City in the World and Top City in Africa and the Middle East.

Each year Travel + Leisure showcase the best islands, cities, hotels, cruise lines, airports and tour operators in their World’s Best Awards, as voted for by their readers.

In the category “World’s Best City in Africa and the Middle East” Cape Town comes in ahead of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, also making it into their Hall of Fame in this category for being on the list ten years in row.

In the category “World’s Best City”, Cape Town is the only African city to make the list and is joined by:

Kyoto, Japan

Charleston, USA

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Florence, Italy

Rome, Italy

Bangkok, Thailand

Krakow, Poland

Barcelona, Spain

Cape Town, South Africa

Jerusalem, Israel

In an announcement of the World’s Best City Awards by CNN, the publication said; “Forget everything you thought you knew about Africa. Cape Town is cutting-edge, artsy and buzzing with energy.

“There are few places in the world where you can exercise your shopping skills (Woodstock's Neighborgoods Market on Saturday mornings is the place to go for Afrikaans jerky and silk-and-leather sandals), take off on a safari, or enjoy world-famous cuisine all in one weekend.

“Atlantic-facing Clifton Beaches are the South Beach of South Africa, known for enormous natural boulders tumbling into the sea, pristine sunbathing conditions and the capoeira dancers that entertain crowds with fire and African drums on Monday nights.”

CEO of Cape Town Tourism, Enver Duminy, comments; “These awards are always great news for the city as it puts us in the global spotlight and encourages visits to destination Cape Town.

“Accolades and awards lists like these are a great way for destinations to benchmark not only their own levels of achievement for the year, but also allow us to see who the new competitors above and below us are, and gives as an opportunity to determine what we could improve on as a city.”
