London - Luxury camping is more popular than ever, with yurts, tipis and stylish cabins popping up all around Great Britain.

But while “glamping” – glamorous camping – is already well-established, there is one new trend that’s about to take off.

The Churches Conservation Trust, which takes care of 347 churches around the UK that are no longer used for regular worship, is offering overnight stays for holidaymakers who want the ultimate experience.

So far, three are available to book for the Trust’s latest church camping, or “champing”, breaks.

Guests can spend the night in a Grade I or II listed establishment: either the Church of St Cyriac and St Julita at Swaffham Prior in Cambridgeshire, the All Saints’ Church in Aldwincle, Northamptonshire or the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Fordwich, Kent.

The experience takes place over two days, including one night spent in your church of choice – and each structure is special in its own way.

All Saints’ Church is known for its medieval architecture, while the Georgian interior of St Cyriac & St Julitta is beautiful in its own right.

At the Church of St Mary the Virgin, the 14th-century stained glass windows are a major focal point, as well as the 18th century wooden box pews, which is where your bed will be set up. Overnight, the guests will have the entire building to themselves and plenty of time to explore the nearby countryside during the day.

Alongside the standard “champing” city break, the Churches Conservation Trust can also arrange other activities, such as walks, canoeing adventures, or yoga.
