First holiday memory?

Knysna with my family when I was about 7 years old. It was a good, old-fashioned drive filled with “I spy” games.

Favourite place in South Africa?

Darren and I love going on safari and there are just the best options in South Africa. Game drives are the most relaxing way to appreciate our incredible country.

Best holiday?

Darren often surprises me with a trip away for my birthday, but the time away on our honeymoon was beyond amazing. We went to Europe and America for a month. It was magical.

What have you learnt from your travels?

Pack less, shop more.

Ideal travel companion?

My husband and children: I’m so happy when I have my family with me.

Beach bum, culture vulture or adrenalin junkie?

I’m not interested in anything to do with sun, sand or 275 heart beats a minute.

I’m intrigued by architecture around the world. I’m always photographing buildings when we are away – half of the holiday album will be a detailed shot of something I found interesting on a building.

Greatest travel luxury?

My camera – there is no point in going on holiday if you can’t capture the memories.

Holiday reading?

No reading, no TV – just taking in the moment and I’ve been grateful for the blessing of seeing God’s creations.

Where has seduced you?

Italy. I could move there tomorrow and eat myself to 300kg without a worry in the world.

Worst travel experience?

There is no such thing. At the time it might feel like a disaster, but it will become one of those laugh-until-you-cry dinner conversations.

Best hotel?

Hotel Saint Merry in Paris. It is a chapel converted into a small hotel. It is amazing.

Favourite walk, swim, ride or drive?

When Darren took me on the gondola ride in Venice. I was in awe of the city by water. It is truly spectacular.

Best meal abroad?

Next to the Notre Dame in Paris. I don’t remember the name, but I would be able to walk there from memory. It was the best meal I have ever eaten in my entire life.

Favourite city?

London or New York: I can’t decide. Each is special in its own unique way.

Where next?

Disney with the boys. I can’t wait to make their dreams come true.
