Cape Town - Cape Town International Airport has been ranked as the best airport in Africa at the SkyTrax World Airport Awards, hosted in Germany on Wednesday night.
The awards are the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry voted by customers in the largest, annual global airport satisfaction survey.
It ranks the world's Top 100 Airports for 2016, voted for by airline customers from 106 nationalities during a nine-month survey.
It evaluates traveller experiences across different airport service from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.
Singapore Changi Airport was named as the World's Best Airport for the fourth consecutive year.
Cape Town International was ranked the 22nd best airport in the world, up from 26. This places the airport above the likes of Dubai and Melbourne airports.
Its staff was named Best in Africa. Airports Company South Africa said it was fifth year the airport had been adjudged best in Africa. Chief executive Bongani Maseko said: “We are delighted South Africa's airports have been recognised on the global stage.”
