Johannesburg - Tumi Voster won a presenter search competition for SABC1’s YOTV a few years ago. Here she speaks to Munya Vomo about her travel experiences.
First holiday memory?
Durban, still a great childhood memory. We used to visit Durban every December as a family. It’s something that my parents enjoyed, I guess the amazing weather just kept them going for more. I was a kid so I was only happy that I was not spending my December holidays at home.
Favourite place in South Africa?
Cape Town. The best thing about Cape Town is that it’s got such a different vibe. I always say that it doesn’t even feel like you’re in South Africa. The restaurants, the food, it really puts South Africa on a global map. One of our best treasures!
Best holiday?
Dubai. This trip was everything! Especially because I got to share it with three lovely ladies, Shashi Naidoo, LeAnne Dlamini and Lorinda Voges (my manager). When you put four ladies who absolutely love fashion and food together, you know it’s definitely gonna go down. We had the best experience ever.
Everything from the desert safari, to the camels to the dune drives to the fashion, checking out the Armani hotel, Burj Khalifa to the Madinat Jumeirah. It shows you the true beauty and tradition of Dubai and I love how the people are so proud of their tradition and culture, to themit goes way beyond the opulence and that was so refreshing to see.
What have you learnt from your travels?
I’ve learnt a lot about different cultures, religions, history and different foods.
Ideal travelling companion?
My mom or boyfriend. I believe travelling creates so many amazing memories and you share so much, so if I were to share memories and experiences those would be my two people.
Beach bum, culture vulture or adrenalin junkie?
Beach bum, totally! I love dressing up to go to the beach. I rock in my sexiest bikini and shades, sitting in the sun, and of course take lots of photos. One of my favourite things to do when I’m on holiday!
Greatest travel luxury?
The experience, physically, intellectually and emotionally. Just appreciating the finer things in life. The hidden gems. The people. The food. The cultures.
Holiday reading?
Fashion mags. Cosmopolitan, Vogue and Elle. I love dressing up when I’m on holiday, so I get different ideas and inspirations from the magazines.
Which destination seduced you?
Dubai. I think the fashion life seduced me the most.
Worst travel experience?
Nothing yet.
Best hotel?
Armani hotel, Dubai. I love how the hotel reflects the Armani brand. Classic, simple. Clean cut. Tailored to your taste. The attention to detail in this hotel is phenomenal.
Favourite walk, swim, ride or drive?
I love taking long walks on the beach.
Best meal abroad?
Can’t recall.
Favourite city?
Paris. The most romantic city in the world. This is where I would love to get married one day!
Where to next?
Paris! (Again.)
