In an exciting announcement poised to delight cruise enthusiasts and fans alike, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) revealed that renowned actor Eric Stonestreet will serve as the godfather of their latest groundbreaking ship, Norwegian Aqua.
The ship is set to launch in April 2025 and will offer guests more to enjoy with first-at-sea experiences, including the world’s first hybrid waterslide and rollercoaster, as well as the first clay sauna and the brand’s first Thai speciality restaurant.
Stonestreet, two-time Emmy Award winner, is celebrated for his memorable role as Cameron Tucker on the critically acclaimed television series “Modern Family”, a performance that not only earned him widespread admiration but also solidified his status as a beloved figure in entertainment.
Currently starring in season two of Disney+’s “The Santa Clauses”, he embodies a charismatic and relatable persona that perfectly aligns with NCL’s mission to provide joy to its guests.
Commenting on this, David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, said they are very excited to officially welcome Stonestreet to the NCL team.
“We had an amazing time with Eric on one of our ships, and also got to spend some time with his charming family after. Over the past couple of months, Eric has become a true friend of NCL.
“Eric’s authenticity, wit, charm and genuine desire to bring happiness to the masses embodies the role of godfather for Norwegian Aqua, as well as who we are and what we stand for as a company. We are honoured to have Eric as the godfather of Norwegian Aqua,” said Herrera.
Stonestreet's influence will culminate in his pivotal role during the ship's grand christening ceremony on April 13, 2025, in the cruise capital of the world, Miami.
At this traditional nautical event, Stonestreet will officially welcome Norwegian Aqua to the NCL fleet by performing the time-honoured act of breaking a champagne bottle across the ship’s bow—an occasion meant to bless the vessel with good fortune and safe travels for all passengers.
“Travelling the world to meet new people and explore new places is something I love to do,” said Stonestreet, emphasising his enthusiasm after experiencing what NCL has to offer first-hand.
“I am blown away by what’s in store for Norwegian Aqua and I cannot wait to take a ride on the Aqua Slidecoaster, indulge in some red curry at the all-new Sukhothai and create lifelong memories with my own family while on board this innovative new ship,” he said.
