The Michael Jackson HIStory Tribute Concert returns to Durban for its first local staging in four years.
The show will be held at The Globe at Suncoast from December 21 to 24.
In an interview with POST, Kristy Mathews, the COO for The Showtime Australia Group that is bringing the concert to town, said that after a hiatus from international and local touring, the show would bring a revamped production to Durban audiences.
“Showtime Australia has been wowing audiences in South Africa with the Michael Jackson HIStory show for over a decade. The show is high energy and Michael Jackson has such an extensive back catalogue. We are able to perform an array of his most popular music and also touch on some of his most iconic moments from his live concerts. We have arrive on stage in a spaceship.”
The show is led by Dantanio from Johannesburg as Jackson alongside international musicians and dancers.
Mathews said tribute shows were often more accessible to a wider audience, but some shows and artists were more successful than others.
“Michael Jackson's music is timeless, with a fan base spanning all generations, young and old. He brings people together from all backgrounds and binds them through his music and song writing.
“Our show pays a tribute to the King of Pop as we keep the memory of his music alive and bring it to audiences that still want to see his songs performed live on stage to celebrate his incredible career.
“Our key is in the detail of the music and performance so that we bring the audiences an experience like they were in the company of the man himself.”
Mathews praised Dantanio’s skill: “He is an exceptionally gifted performer and fills the shoes and famous socks with distinction, filling the stage with an energy that MJ himself would be proud of. We have been lucky enough to have toured the world with Dantanio and the Michael Jackson HIStory Show for over seven years, and we look forward to his return to stage in Durban.”
* Tickets for all four performances are available at Ticketpro.
