An elderly Phoenix woman was shot and killed on Monday morning, while allegedly waiting outside her home for her transport.
KZN VIP, a private security company, said they received multiple distress calls of a shooting on Cardham Drive.
The woman, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Upon arrival, a female victim was found lying on the roadway unresponsive. Sadly, nothing could be done by KZN VIP Medics medics to save her and she was declared deceased on scene.
“It is believed a silver vehicle with 2 male suspects were seen shooting at the female before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of valuables. The female was waiting outside her home for her transport to work during the time of the incident.
“The scene was cordoned off by KZN VIP and handed over to SAPS. The circumstances leading up to the incident cannot be confirmed at this stage pending an investigation. The victim's children remain highly traumatised following the incident,” Gareth Naidoo of KZN VIP said in a statement.
Vassie Govender, Chairperson of Voice of Phoenix, said: “Gun violence in Phoenix has grown over the years. But many, if not most of these shootings, are linked to drugs or gangs. Internal politics lead to violence. It is unfortunate that a woman was killed this morning, again in a shooting. We will have to wait for a proper investigation,” Govender said.
