Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: 6cm of knife recovered from actor’s wound

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was reportedly attacked with a 6cm knife by an assailant, who barged into his Bandra house through his youngest son, Jeh’s room.

As per media reports, doctors removed the knife from his wound. The actor, who underwent surgery, has been shifted to the ICU and is said to be out of danger.

A team of doctors, taking care of Khan’s medical requirements, spoke with the media on Thursday.

Doctor Nitin Dange, who was part of the surgery, said: "Saif Ali Khan was admitted at 2am. He sustained major injury to the spinal cord, in the thoracic spinal cord, due to the lodged knife in the spine. Surgery was performed to remove the knife and also repair the leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team. He is completely stable now and recovering well.“

The actor was stabbed multiple times in an attempt to fight off a burglar during the early hours of Thursday. He sustained six stab wounds, two of which were said to be serious as they were closer to his spine.

At the time of incident, his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan was at home with other members of the family. Khan was woken up by the commotion in Jeh’s room. He found the culprit arguing with their house help and intervened to save the helper.

Later the actor’s team issued an official statement saying Khan was stable and was out of danger. They said he was being monitored by a team of medical professionals.

“Saif Ali Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress. All family members are safe and the police are investigating the incident. We would like to thank Dr Niraj Uttamani, Dr Nitin Dange, Dr Leena Jain and the team at Lilavati Hospital.
