EMADWALENI Secondary was the latest school to be raided by police in Soweto. Seven pupils were yesterday found in possession of dagga or knives.
The police raided the school soon after 8am, just as teachers and pupils had begun their day.
In a Grade 10 class, two matchboxes containing dagga were found on two pupils, who then implicated a third.
One Grade 9 pupil apparently ate his stash of dagga, just before police were going to search him.
Minutes later he began vomiting, but this didn’t stop the cops from giving him a lecture about the dangers of using drugs.
Later, those pupils found in possession of drugs led police officers to two houses where they had bought the dagga.
At a house in Orlando West, three men were arrested for dealing in dagga.
When police arrived at the house, they found the doors locked and the windows closed.
But when police spotted a man looking out of one of the windows, they demanded he open the door. When he refused, they broke down the front door.
Inside the house they found men trying to get rid of dagga by burning it.
One of the suspects tried to hide in a bed, but was instantly caught.
At a second residence, also in Orlando West, police arrested two men. Police raided a shack where they found a plastic bag containing dagga. In the same yard, another suspect was arrested after police found dagga on his shack roof.
Police spokeswoman Nomvula Mbense said the suspects would appear soon in the Orlando Magistrate’s Court.
