SIX groups of hopefuls took their chances in Soweto at the weekend to audition in the semi-finals of the Hansa Pilsener Festival of Legends.
The winner of the competition will have the opportunity to be the opening act for American songwriter, actor and singer Usher (Raymond) on March 10 at the Orlando Stadium.
The Sedibeng pub and bar in Meadowlands had several of its supporters, regulars and party animals who wanted to be part of the Soweto leg of the auditioning process.
The semi-finalists of the competition include Mo and The Dark Knights, Pre-Eminence, The Muffinz, BFG, Lindiwe and Joel Zuma.
The Muffinz believe they deserve to be the opening act of Confessions hit-maker Usher.
Two of the five-piece group’s members are from Naledi and Zola, and they say this is an opportunity they would never pass by.
“We are hopeful about this and believe we will be the opening act for Usher in March,” said a member of the group.
Asked to describe their music genre, they looked at each other and said: “Eclectic funky soul.”
The group was formed almost a year ago and have not struggled for gigs since then.
“We have been to many places thus far and people keep booking us for more and more gigs, and that is what we want,” the group member said.
