JULIUS Malema has encouraged the people of Limpopo to claim their Struggle inheritance, saying the government and ANC were undermining the people of that province.
Malema, addressing a rally yesterday at Ga-Phaahla village in the Sekhukhune region of Limpopo, blamed the ANC for not recognising local freedom fighters.
Malema said stalwarts like Flag Boshielo, a founding member of Umkhonto weSizwe; former Robben Island prisoner Lawrence Phokanoka; and former youth leader Peter Mokaba were forgotten heroes. He asked why streets in the country had been renamed after the same coterie of people who’d been involved in the Struggle.
“Why would they respect us, if they disrespect our leaders?”
Malema said people from Limpopo had long endured the ridicule of their compatriots. “They think you are stupid when you say you come from Limpopo.”
