The anticipation is building for the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), which have officially announced their nominees as they gear up for an exciting return to the UK after a seven-year hiatus.
This year’s event marks a landmark 30th anniversary celebration, and South African artists are making their presence felt on the global stage with a remarkable array of nominations.
Leading the pack is Tyla, the 22-year-old Amapiano sensation, who has garnered four major nominations, including Best New Artist, Best R&B, Best African Act, and Best Afrobeats.
Tyla’s meteoric rise in the music industry has captured international attention, with her recent accolades including wins at the MTV Video Music Awards and the Grammy Awards.
Notably, she ties with iconic artists such as Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, and Nigerian star Ayra Starr, each securing four nominations at this esteemed event.
In the Best Afrobeats category, Tyla will compete fiercely against well-known musicians like Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems, among others.
This year’s nominations not only spotlight Tyla but also showcase the exceptional talent, including TitoM (Thato Mathobela), Yuppe (Bongani Sibanyoni), and DBN Gogo.
As self-proclaimed trailblazers of the Amapiano genre, TitoM and Yuppe have surpassed 10 million streams of their anthem and have also made waves internationally with their hit song, “Tshwala Bam”.
Their collaborative work continues to capture the imaginations of fans not only in SA but around the world.
TitoM and Yuppe’s success is further reflected in their latest accolade, winning the Best Viral Challenge award at the Metro FM Music Awards for their smash hit song, “Tshwala Bam.”
In an exciting development, the duo recently released a remix featuring Nigerian megastar Burna Boy, adding an Afrobeat flair to their vibrant sound.
DBN Gogo, who is also a force to be reckoned with in the world of entertainment, has been making remarkable strides in her career, as she was recently announced as Spotify EQUAL Africa’s March Ambassador.
It is revealed that the star who hails from Durban is the only artist in Africa so far to hold the EQUAL Africa ambassadorship twice, a testament to her flourishing career.
SA artists’ rising prominence and nominations reflect their dedication and talent, showcasing the vibrant music scene in the country. Their upcoming EMAs also represent a significant step in their careers, attracting global attention.
