This year marks five years since Drip, a popular sneaker and apparel brand, was launched by Lekau Sehoana, but this milestone has been overshadowed by controversy around his personal life.
This follows reports that Sehoana’s ex-wife and his son were evicted from a property in Waterfall, which he refuted in a statement claiming that they were diverting attention from the celebration of the brand.
The statement shared across social media platforms, read: “I have noted media outlets running with the story that I, my soon-to-be ex-wife, and my son were evicted out of a property in Waterfall. The story is factually incorrect, and it is intended to divert the public's attention from DRIP’s five-year celebration.
“First, I have not lived with my soon-to-be ex-wife since 2021, and I have no access to my son. I was renting the property for my soon-to-be ex-wife in order to provide a home for my son.
“Second, I was previously notified by the landlord informing me that the police sought access to the property in order to seek her assistance with their investigations into the murder of DRIP’s former MD, Ms Glenda Ndlanzi. When the police arrived at the property, they found that she had sublet the property to people I do not know and without my and/or the landlord’s consent — a total breach of the lease agreement.
“It is for the above stated reason that I decided to cancel the lease agreement. The divorce process is ongoing, and despite several attempts on my end to settle and expedite the divorce, they have not been fruitful.
“My legal representative has advised me against making further comments and/or statements on my divorce and any other matters incidental thereto.”
Sehoana added that the past three years had been filled with joy of growth and a very dark side which he had told himself he was never going to go public with.
He revealed that every time the brand did something amazing, they witnessed counter attacks.
To mark the birthday, they recently had a pop-up store at the shack in Ivory Park where Sehoana grew up. Drip also launched the new sneaker, the J26, in celebration of five years of DRIP with the new Shopfitting design.
Making the announcement, Sehoana said: “5 Years of DRIP Comes with Exciting News. I’m thrilled to introduce @sneaker0utlet, an addition to the newly formed Amanzi Group of Brands Company.
