Johannesburg - Award-winning amapiano DJ Maphorisa has come out to defend his name and rubbished claims that he is a gatekeeper in the music industry, making it clear and concise that no one owns amapiano.

This stems from sentiments that were drawn by the popular podcaster MacG who threw slurs at DJ Maphorisa calling him a gatekeeper.

DJ Maphorisa took to his Twitter account to explain and said, amapiano ke “With or Without u” movement no gatekeepers let it sink in”.

“I see u don’t get it. No one owns amapiano anyone can do it and win. Good example look at Uncle Waffles one trending Adiwele video the rest was history. She did it alone. Ooh look at Costa Titch he’s doing alone n winning. Stop saying I am keeper.”

The podcast host was sitting with his co-host Sol Phenduka when he made these claims, pointing out that he was not scared of DJ Maphorisa.

“Let me tell you a story about gatekeeping. There is someone who told me that Maphorisa is going to be mad that I am dropping an EP and I did not ask for his approval,” said MacG

“Now I must ask Maphorisa before I drop an EP. They said Maphorisa is going to be mad because I did not ask for his approval because he is a gatekeeper.

“He is not my father broe. Fu*k him. He can eat a di*k. If he fu**s around I won’t even drop an EP I’ll drop an album,” said MacG.

Listeners also shared their presumptions about the recent episode with some criticising him while others agreed with his assertions.

Malinga said everything and agreed on allegations that Maphorisa is the gatekeeper and we are not going to argue with you cause (sic) Malinga said everything we need to know,” said Samuel Malepe.

Tee Touchza took to his Twitter account and said, “Mac G enjoys badmouthing other people but hates it when he gets the same treatment from the same people that he badmouths. He claims Maphorisa is gatekeeping amapiano but he can’t even explain how. Podcast and Chill is starting to be a show about rubbing MacG’s ego.”
