After a hiatus from her music career, “Princess of House” artist Bucie Nkomo is back and ready to captivate fans with an intimate live performance at Flute in Rosebank on July 26 and 27.
The singer took a break from the industry to start a family. She is back, saying that the “calling” was haunting her.
During her recent interview on Radio 2000, Nkomo opened up to listeners about her comeback story.
She said that while many people had speculated that her ex-husband convinced her to stop making music, she was the one who planned to go on a hiatus.
“People give my ex-husband way too much credit by saying he made me quit music. He didn't. It was time for me to take a break.
“I wanted to start a family, I wanted to have children and I needed to be there because I know how the industry is. I needed to be there for my children, I wanted to be present for my children and I knew that if I continue with being in the industry, there was no way I was going to be that kind of a mother to my children.
“And it was very necessary.
“One thing that happened while I was on that break – God. When God calls you to do something and you run away from it, he makes everything around you very uncomfortable, because you need to go and do what you were called to do.”
She said her “calling” made her return to music.
“I couldn’t run away from it, it haunted me, and also my fans. At some point, I just felt like probably people forgot about me … but God said: ‘Even now you can still do what I called you to do, and you will go out there and heal souls’.”
