Smoke & Mirrors” star Mnqobi Yazo is set to take a break from acting to focus on his music career.

The 31-year-old, whose real name is Mnqobi Msimango, told “Daily Sun” that after his character Dlozi was written off on the e.tv telenovela, he decided to make music.

“I'm a passionate musician more than an actor. So, I've decided to give my music more attention,” he told the publication.

Yazo, who also starred in “The River” and “Durban Gen”, is no stranger to the music industry.

The Afro-pop singer and music producer released his debut album, “Iscephu”, in 2018. His song “247” went on to be a riveting success and he has since released five more albums.

He is now set to continue his nationwide tour, which began in Cape Town in July, to perform some of the biggest hits from his latest album, “Ubhoko”.

He added that he'll perform all the songs featured on the album.

Meanwhile, the artist was in February featured in Apple Music’s Up Next artist development programme in South Africa.

As he sets out to continue his musical career, Yazo joins the likes of “The Queen” actress Moya (real name Nomoya Refiloe Dube) in taking a break from acting to embark on a music career.

Earlier this month, she announced that she will embark on a tour of the US and UK with the likes of Lauryn Hill, YG Marley and D.I.O.

She recently signed a record label deal with the US' Asanda Empires and officially launched her rap career in the MHL & The Fugees Tour, which kicks off in August, where she will perform in cities like Paris, London and Amsterdam.

"I expected to blow up but not first in the US. But you can never pre-empt your journey to success,” she told “Zimoja” at the time.

"That is how I was able to navigate my way in the US before doing it at home. It has been worth the hard work, and long hours in the studio."

Moya also featured on a song with Snoop Dogg, B Taylor as well as another one with the “It’s on Me”’ hitmaker and Flo Rida.

"Both those are not my songs, but I am a feature, and for them to see my potential is a big deal,“ she told the online publication.

"I don't know when they plan to release that music but I know people will love it.”
