Prepare for even more ghoulish escapades as filming for the second season of the hit Netflix show, “Wednesday”, starring Hollywood IT girl Jenna Ortega, is underway.
While the official release date for the show has not been announced yet the streaming giant has stated that its latest offering will continue to chart the supernatural mysteries of Wednesday Addams as she attends Nevermore Academy.
When “Wednesday” season 2 was renewed in January 2023, the show promised more “torture” ahead.
Ortega, who will also executive produce the new season, recently told “Tudum”, the streaming service’s official companion website: “[Wednesday] sticks to her guns and she’s not out to please anybody.”
“As someone who used to be an immense people pleaser, I really respect (that),” she added.
The 21-year-old actress will lead the cast as the star of the show on the “Addams Family” spin-off where she plays the weird and wacky family’s only daughter.
As Wednesday Addams, a part-time detective, part-time mystery author and full-time outcast, she has earned legions of fans across the globe.
Others who reprise their roles include Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene), Georgie Farmer (Ajax) and Victor Dorobantu (Thing).
Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Deputy Ritchie Santiago), Jamie McShane (Sheriff Donovan Galpin) and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) will also return in guest starring roles.
Meanwhile, Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton , Owen Painter, Noah Taylor and Joanna Lumley will also be joining the show.
In addition, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo and Joonas Suotamowill all make an appearance.
“Wednesday’s” latest offering will once again be directed by Tim Burton. The duo have also worked together for the “Beetlejuice” sequel which will be released in cinemas worldwide on September 6.
He will also serve as executive producer alongside Ortega, creators and showrunners, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar as well as Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, Karen Richards, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman and Meredith Averill.
The second season of the eerie mystery is set to take place in Ireland, while the first was filmed in Romania, which saw Wednesday in the middle of an otherworldly conspiracy after she enrolled at Nevermore Academy.
On season two, Millar added: “Threats remain out there… to both Wednesday and the school.”
“Not all loose ends have been tied up neatly as she thinks they have.”
“Wednesday” has turned out to be a riveting success since it was released on Netflix in November 2022. The show is the streamer’s most popular English-language TV series, and season one spent 20 weeks on the Global Top 10 and reached the Top 10 in 93 countries.
In July 2023, the series was nominated for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Meanwhile, to commemorate “Wednesday” season two, Mattel will drop a brand-new Wednesday Addams Collection.
Set to be released in September, it will include Wednesday alongside Thing, kitted out in her Nevermore Academy uniform as well as a figurine, which captures the magic of season 1’s iconic dance scene.
The third doll is based on Enid Sinclair, a werewolf student at Nevermore Academy and Wednesday's roommate and bestie.
