Early in July, South African rapper J Molley (real name Jesse Molley) caused quite a stir on social media when he posted a video calling fellow rapper Emtee “a lean addict”.
The drama began when Molley announced he was pulling out of a joint album project with Emtee.
According to Molley, he cancelled the collaboration because Emtee was misbehaving and couldn’t produce anything substantial for the album.
This led to a heated response from Emtee, who recently took to the stage at Cosmopolitan in Maboneng to fire shots back at Molley.
Molley, in his original video, detailed his frustrations with Emtee. “What I do as a stand-up guy, I pay for the studio sessions, I gave them gas money because motherf***s ain’t got no money.
“So I gave them gas money, they pulled up, I buy them KFC, they can’t afford their own KFC. I buy lean for them, I buy lean for Emtee and Youngserunno,” Molley said.
Molley claimed that Emtee’s behaviour in the studio was unprofessional and unproductive.
“He passed out on the couch, he couldn’t put his shoe on. I had three sessions with Emtee in the last week, he couldn’t even rap one bar. I would leave him in the studio to do his thing, come back, and he’d have rapped four bars in two hours, and two of the lines rhymed with each other,” Molley recounted.
In the swipe, Molley emphasised the extent of his support during their sessions.
“For the last three sessions with me, I’ve paid for everything. I bought them KFC, paid for transport, they pulled up to the studio, I bought them lean.
“Emtee is a lean addict, and so is Youngseruno. Whether Emtee is sleeping or swearing at his fans on Live, that’s what he does best,” he added.
During his performance, Emtee did not hold back.
“Who’s J Molley after all? Whenever you see him, make him uncomfortable ... Lingijwayela kabi le phara (He is disrespectful, this homeless man),” the “Roll Up” hitmaker declared, rallying his fans against Molley.
