GQEBERHA: Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen and Liam Dawson produced a stirring trinity to blissfully carry Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory at St George’s Park on Wednesday evening.
Markram played an innings worthy of his captain’s armband. With his team in all sorts at 53/5, the skipper produced a gusty 68 not out off 55 balls to drag the Sunrisers up to 149/7.

It’s no surprise that he initially had assistance from Jansen (24 off 20 balls) through a 39-run partnership for the sixth wicket before Liam Dawson (25 off 11 balls) produced a cracker of a cameo in a 53-partnership off just 26 balls with Markram.
With all the momentum in favour of the Sunrisers at the dinner break, Jansen fed off this renewed energy.
The lanky left-armer has been superb form over the last few games with the new ball, even stating that he’s got it on a string at the moment, and he certainly did in a superb opening over.
The Sunrisers were always looking to strike early, and Jansen obliged when Will Jacks drove a full delivery straight to Dawson at short cover.
Jansen should have had two wickets before the Capitals had even opened their account, but Simon Harmer dropped a straightforward chance at first slip off a flying Kyle Verreynne edge.
The missed opportunity did nothing to quell the Sunrisers’ enthusiasm with Jansen hitting back by removing both Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Verreynne in quick succession. With Richard Gleeson also chipping in Capitals captain Rilee Rossouw’s scalp, the visitors were reeling at 34/4 at the conclusion of the Powerplay.
But unlike the Sunrisers they did not have the experience in the middle order to launch a recovery.
Marques Ackerman (25 off 20 balls) and debutant Keagan Lion-Cachet (28 off 27 balls) played their hand with a 38-run partership, but Dawson (3/17) simply had too much tactial nous for the youthful pair and picked up both of them in quick succession to close out any Captials’ resistance. | Independent Media Sport
