New Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nareddine Nabi has revealed that his side’s 4-0 loss to Tanzanian outfit Young Africans in pre-season match on Sunday has helped him understand the level of his players ahead of the upcoming season.
The newly appointed coach said while he was not happy with the loss, he could assess his players properly as he embarked on his quest to bring back the glory days to Naturena.
"Today's game has helped me very much because it provided me with the opportunity to know exactly the level of my players collectively and individually, but I'm not happy if I lose any game because I'm a winner and I don't accept the losing," The Kaizer Chiefs mentor said.
The Tunisian tactician emphasised the need to manage the expectations of the Amakhosi supporters.
"If I win today and people are happy and say Chiefs is back, Nabi, Nabi and when the league starts, then boom but today we observed some positive points and it's not my problem if people don't know football and there's no sleep today because the team lost in a friendly game," said Nabi.
Kaizer Chiefs had a torrid 23/24 campaign last season, finishing 10th in the league, which resulted in the club parting ways with interim head coach Cavin Johnson.
The club has since roped in Nabi in with the hopes that he can turn things around. Heading into the game on Sunday, there was a lot of optimism among the Amakhosi faithful after their pre-season camp in Turkiye, in which the Soweto giants beat Qatar Stars League side Al Shahaniya 5-2.
Following the results on Sunday, the Young Africans coach Miguel Gamondi also weighed in on the Soweto giants stating that the Tunisian mentor has some work to do.
"Kaizer Chiefs didn't create goal chances and this a situation that should concern the coach we created chances and we had ball position a lot there's a lot of work to do," Gamondi said.
