It’s been months since Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu left Mamelodi Sundowns, and his future still looks like it won’t be resolved any time soon.

Zungu dropped a bombshell towards the end of last season when he announced on social media that he was going to be leaving the reigning league champions.

Zungu’s departure was also cited as one of the things that contributed to the strained relationship between former Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena and sporting director Flemming Berg. Mokwena was sacked days after Zungu’s announcement.

Having played in countries such as Portugal and Scotland, and with a lot of international experience, it was expected that he wouldn’t struggle to find a new home.

However, with the season well underway, Zungu has still not managed to land himself a new club.

Why Orlando Pirates should sign him

One club that has been linked with the 31-year-old former Glasgow Rangers midfielder is Orlando Pirates.

Earlier this week, former Kaizer Chiefs star said Junior Khanye urged Pirates to get the deal done and sign the Zungu, regardless of his age.

"Forget age, I mean if a player is good, he is good, quality is quality and that’s how they mature. So, Pirates need Bongani Zungu,“ said Khanye, according to iDiskiTimes.

"... Credit to his past coaches like Rulani [Mokwena] and Pitso [Mosimane] because they worked on him post his days at Tuks. I mean his crosses are like those of players who play in the number 10 position. He plays forward passes more than backward and sideways. They need Bongani Zungu," he said.
