Kaizer Chiefs’ supporters will be able to get an idea of what’s ahead for the club under Nasreddine Nabi when they play their first game of their pre-season tour to Turkiye this weekend.

Amakhosi announced on their website and social media channels on Thursday that they’ve secured a friendly against newly promoted Qatar Stars League side Al Shahaniya SC.

“With the team continuing with their pre-season camp and preparations in Turkiye, Amakhosi will play their third practice/friendly match against Qatar’s Al Shahaniya SC in Istanbul on Saturday, 20 July,” they said on their statement.

“Al Shahaniya gained promotion to the Qatar Stars League (QSL) after they were crowned champions at the end of the previous season.”

Nabi and Chiefs have been quietly working over the last week as they prepare for the new season. The Tunisian’s appointment as the club’s head coach was confirmed almost two weeks ago.

Since his arrival, a number of club bosses have waxed lyrical about Nabi being the right man to lead the club back to the top of South African football.

The once-mighty Soweto giants have not won a trophy since winning the league under Stuart Baxter back in 2015. Last season — one of the worst runs in the club’s history — saw them finish outside of the top eight following a number of embarrassing defeats.

Due to the PSL’s problems with their sponsor Multichoice, dates and fixtures for the new season have yet to be announced.
