It may have been a comeback for the ages, but his side’s consistency this season is what pleased Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro most, after their 2-1 Betway Premiership victory over Cape Town City on Saturday.

Pirates found themselves a goal down in the 21st minute as Haashim Domingo put the visitors ahead at Orlando Stadium.

It was a scoreline that remained unchanged for close to 50 minutes before Tshegofatso Mabasa netted the equaliser.

Still it seemed like the match was heading towards a draw, before Goodman Mosele snatched the winner in the 87th minute.

“I think it’s clearly the key, for us during the season, during the whole season, what we’re achieving in terms of results, performances, the quality of these players are not in question,” said Riveiro after the match.

“Everybody knows they are good enough to play at this club, to challenge for every title, to perform in the way they are doing. The key is to do it every day – even in your bad days, not bad day… it’s more my limitations in English [when I say this].

Even though his side were on the back foot for most of the contest, Riveiro believed his charges were by no means second best.

“Today was not a bad game from our side, but it was one of those games that is not looking nice, you’re not going to win the game playing beautiful but still you have to look for the result.

“We’re fortunate to have a striker like Evidence on the bench also to come in with Tshego to keep Gordinho and Fasika busier in the last 15 minutes, giving more space for some other options in the box, arrivals and everyone was really committed.”
