SuperSport United confirmed on Friday morning that they’ve “mutually” parted ways with coach Gavin Hunt, while Andre Arendse is set to replace him on an interim basis.
The news of Hunt’s sacking broke out on Thursday afternoon following a meeting he reportedly had with the management after a string of poor results.
SuperSport have had a tough outing this season as they are languishing on the 15th spot on the log with just 21 points after 21 matches in the Betway Premiership.

The poor run of form hasn’t been ideal for Hunt who was supposed to be on cloud nine after etching his name in the history books of SA football after coaching his 1000th match.
Hunt, moreover, had started his second tenure at the club with aplomb after leading the team to a third and seventh-place finish in the last two campaigns with limited resources.
But while things have clearly not gone according to plan this season, the club still backs Hunt to “contribute” to SA and African football given his vast expertise.
Hunt has already made his mark not only by becoming the first SA coach to reach 1000 games, but he’s one of the few coaches who have won the championship at least four times.
The 60-year-old won three successive titles with SuperSport, while he bagged his fourth with the defunct Bidvest Wits – among other accolades in his career.
Matsantsantsa a Pitori have entrusted Hunt’s former lieutenant Arendse and Grant Johnson to at least steer the ship until they find a permanent replacement.
Arendse will ascend as the interim coach, handing over his assistant coach role to Johnson who was in the capacity of a goalkeeper coach.
The two men will start their roles when they host Cape Town City, who’ll also have a new-look technical team after recently sacking interim coach Muhsin Ertugral, on Sunday in Polokwane.
