Manqoba Mngqithi has opened up about his firing from Mamelodi Sundowns, which came unexpectedly with the club on a brilliant run of form and sitting at the top of the Betway Premiership.
Sundowns shocked the country in December when they announced the appointment of Spaniard Miguel Cardoso even before announcing that Mngqithi had been fired.
Quoted by iDiskiTimes, Mngqithi opened up that he was disappointed by the sacking, which came out of nowhere.
“I was disappointed because, in my opinion, I still thought we were on a good run. I still thought we had achieved so much, and we had improved so much in most of the matrix that we wanted to improve on, and, in my naked eye, I just saw bigger potential in the group going forward,” he said, according to the online publication.

“But be that as it may, I still had to accept the decision and move on because even in my own house or my own business, I take my decisions, and nobody must be telling me what to do. My decision is based on what I think is good for my business and I think that is what I did, and I cannot blame them for that.
“Maybe there’s something they saw that I didn’t see.”
Since leaving Sundowns, Mngqithi has returned to Golden Arrows, the club where he made his name over 15 years ago. Abafana Bes’thende have been on a mini revival since Mngqithi’s return and have picked up four points from three games, including a very credible 1-1 draw against his former employers Sundowns.
Meanwhile, Sundowns have been flying since Cardoso’s appointment. The Brazilians hold a 15-point lead over Orlando Pirates in the title race. Ezimnyamna Ngenkani ezikaMagebhula, to their credit, have played four games fewer than the champions.
