Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to mark the beginning of a new era in their history as the new Betway Premiership season begins on Saturday.

Last season Chiefs finished way down in 10th position on the table, and have since made a number of new signings and hired a new coach.

Nasreddine Nabi has the pressurised job as Chiefs coach, and his first assignment will be an away trip to Marumo Gallants. Gallants purchased the Premiership status of Moroka Swallows as they too, look to forge a new period of success in their club history.

The match will start at 5pm at Free State Stadium.

Call for calm

In the lead-up to the clash, Nabi said has called for patience and understanding from the normally volatile AmaKhosi fans.

“If you respect Kaizer Chiefs and the fans of Kaizer Chiefs, you will understand that patience is key. I know there is a challenge,” said Nabi.

“I love my club. I love my fans. My staff and I will give 200%, and I know the direction I am taking.”

Chiefs and Gallants, though, will not have the honour of kicking off the new season. That will belong to Royal AM and Cape Town City at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg at 3pm.

In the final match of the day, Polokwane City will host AmaZulu at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

On Sunday, Richards Bay will welcome TS Galaxy to the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Durban at 3pm.
