He’s one of the hottest strikers on the planet at the moment, and such is his incredible potential that it poses the question: Will Manchester United’s Amad Diallo go down as one of the greats of African football.
While Manchester United have had serious struggles this season, the 22-year-old Ivory Coast player has been one of the shining stars for the Red Devils.
His latest exploits came on Thursday evening, when he scored a brilliant hattrick against Southampton to help United come from behind to score a dramatic 3-1 Premier League victory.
The current king of the African strike throne is Mohamed Salah, but at 32-years-old his best years are probably behind him.
In fact, Salah himself has been in the headlines this season - not just for the 18 goals he’s scored in the league which has seen him top the goal-scoring charts. The Egyptian has not yet been offered a new contract at Liverpool, and he has been uncharacteristically vocal about the issue in the media as he’s voiced his frustration.
Therefore as Salah heads into the twilight of his career, possibly away from English football, Diallo’s star seems set to keep rising.
In fact, Diallo already joined United in 2021 before he was loaned out to Rangers in the Scottish League the following year, when he racked up a handful of appearances.
In the 2022/2023 season Diallo was loaned out to Sunderland where he began to find his feet in English football with 37 caps and 13 goals.
The future is by no means set for Diallo, but what’s clear is there’s no limit to his talent.
