The rumours surrounding Paul Pogba’s potential return to Manchester United just refuse to go away.

Ever since leaving Juventus at the end of last year, the Frenchman has been linked with a host of clubs as he continues his search for a new club.

One of the clubs heavily mentioned has been English giants Manchester United, where Pogba spent nine years in two separate stints. The reports of a return to Old Trafford gathered pace when he was spotted at Carrington, training with the United squad as the end of his 18-month drugs ban approached.

At the time, United had recently appointed Ruben Amorim as their new manager and reports that followed suggested the Portuguese tactician was intrigued by what he saw from Pogba.

Signing Pogba, however, does not seem to be on the agenda for United, whose transfer policy under new part-owners INEOS has changed in the last year. The club are said to be prioritising signing young players with high potential, and at 32 years old, Pogba is not the kind of player United are looking at right now.

Pogba has also been advised against returning to United by French World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit.

“Pogba needs a good environment. However, he has already played for Manchester United twice and has faced constant criticism from the media, former players, and fans… Currently, Manchester United is not the best club for him to go to,” Petit said according to the UK's The Sun.

Other clubs, particularly those from America, have thrown their names into the hat. Pogba has been seen at Inter Miami’s games in the company of club owner David Beckham. While teaming Pogba up with global football icon Lionel Messi would be a marketer’s dream, his desire to play for France again would make the move to America unlikely.

An option would be Marseille in France’s Ligue 1, where he could be reunited with former United teammate Mason Greenwood. But, according to football YouTuber Fabrizio Romano, the French club declined the opportunity to sign him.

For now, America seems like the most likely destination for Pogba. However, his desire to feature for France at the 2026 World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada means he’s still holding out for offers from Europe. United, however, are unlikely to be the club he signs for.
