While a headline sponsor for the tournament has yet to be concluded, Cricket South Africa have now unveiled the winners’ trophy for the Mzansi Super League.
The silver and gold-plated cup is described by CSA as signifying “the spring of a new dawn” with the first MSL T20, which starts on Friday, November 16 at Newlands when the Cape Town Blitz take on the Tshwane Spartans (7pm start).
“We wanted a trophy that would have a unique touch and feel, signifying our unique South African-ness,” CSA chief executive Thabang Moroe said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Bearing in mind that the protea flower is a national iconic symbol that is also the brand associated with our national cricket team – we wanted a design that was close to that with petal-like design that South Africans identify with, signifying our culture, growth and the blossoming of a new era.”
CSA said that there will be a trophy tour that will start later this week, with Gauteng first up on November 9 and 10, followed by Durban (November 12), Port Elizabeth (November 13), Paarl (November 14) and Cape Town (November 15-16).
