CAPE TOWN – It is 100 days until the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon.
The IAAF-accredited marathon is one of the prestigious global races that takes place in the city and accessible to a range of running enthusiasts, from professional athletes to social runners.
Olympic silver medallist Elana Meyer and former Springbok captain Francois Pienaar are ambassadors of the marathon and said they were honoured to be among the people celebrating the countdown.
“This marathon transcends the sport and showcases the city in style. I hope to see more people in this year’s marathon,” said Pienaar.
Meyer said she was proud to be part of the marathon.
“The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is proud to host the IAAF Gold Label city marathon in Africa. The 42.2km road race has made huge strides since it was re-launched in 2014, quickly establishing its place as one of only a select few marathons in the world to achieve IAAF Gold Label status.”

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon aims to become one of the biggest fundraising sport events in South Africa, with 50 charities benefiting from the marathon this year.
One of the two Gold Label status stars taking part of this year’s marathon, Desmond Mokgobu, said the only thing that would make him happy this year was to win the marathon,
Mayco member for safety and security JP Smith said: “The City of Cape Town is honoured and proud to host this marathon and the city is prepared for September 23 to welcome all the visitors from all over the world and the local runners.”
