South African Police Service officers were summoned to a shooting that occurred on Saturday in the parking lot of a shopping complex in Sandowne Road, Parklands.
SAPS said that at the scene police discovered a vehicle with a body of a 55-year-old male with a gunshot wound.
The gentleman was a foreign national from Mauritius and was seated in the front passenger seat.
The cellphone of the victim was taken.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crime or who has information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or Table View Police Station.
“The murder investigation is ongoing and the public is urged to refrain from posting images of the crime scene on social media,” SAPS said in a statement.
Woodstock shooting
Earlier this month, a 30-year-old woman, identified as Imaan Syms, was brutally shot and killed in Sussex Street, Woodstock.
The unknown suspect fled the scene, leaving the community in shock.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that Woodstock police responded to a shooting complaint and discovered Syms' body with multiple gunshot wounds.
"According to reports, the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who shot her before fleeing the scene," Twigg confirmed.
"The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel."
Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack, and no arrests have been made.
A murder case is under investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Syms was the daughter of Ziyaad Williams, a well-known figure in the Minstrel Fraternity and team owner of D Six Hanover Minstrels.
