A foetus was found dumped in a plastic bag in Morningside, Durban on Tuesday morning.
Garrith Jamieson from ALS Paramedics said they responded to reports of a foetus dumped in Montpelier Road.
"Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS and security officials in attendance. Paramedics found a plastic packet with a foetus in it which was left on the roadside," Jamieson said.
"Unfortunately, the foetus was declared deceased on the scene."
He said at this stage the events leading up to this "horrific incident" were unknown, however, the SA Police Service (SAPS) were in attendance and would be investigating further.
Last month, in another incident, a foetus was found in a bin on JB Marks Roads in Glenwood.
At the time, Jamieson said they were called by local security companies to a foetus found in a rubbish bin on November 18, 2024 just after 9am.
“Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do and the foetus was declared deceased.”
He said it is alleged that people digging through the bin made the horrific discovery and alerted authorities.
A passerby also found the body of a newborn baby boy in Bulbul Drive in Silverglen in Chatsworth in November.
Amawele Emergency Services said the body of the newborn with the umbilical cord still attached was discovered by a passer-by.
The baby was declared deceased on scene.
