Radisson Blu Durban Umhlanga raises R25,000 for the Pink Drive at breast cancer event

The Radisson Blu Hotel, Durban Umhlanga in partnership with The Estee Lauder Group of Companies hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon on October 5, 2024 where R25,000 was raised for the Pink Drive.

The event was held to raise awareness and support for breast cancer while also celebrating the courage and strength of those who are impact by breast cancer.

The money was raised through a live auction where guests had to bid on stays at Wild Coast and Brahman Hills as well as products from Jockey and an Estee Lauder gift sets.

Sharing powerful messages for the occasion were the following speakers: businesswoman, philanthropist and executive coach Nomazibulo Tshanga; Estee Lauder Group of Companies Representative Prishantha Pillay; and Mrs SA First Princess 2024, Mrs Globe 2024 Top 20 contestant and cancer survivor Noeline Rajbally.

Entrepreneur and reality TV star Lenore Goss-Maitjie guided the afternoon’s luncheon as the MC for the event.

Kicking off the event, Tshanga spoke about the power of pause and embracing rest a vital key of women empowerment.

“People need to find pockets of harmony. It is important to take moments of reflection and stillness,” Tshanga said.

Tshanga said that some of the benefits of pausing and reflecting include the enhancement of mental clarity. Nothing positive will come out of a tired brain.

Other benefits include, increases productivity, emotions that are regulated, strengthening of relationships and the fostering mindfulness.

Tshanga added: “In the stillness of the pause we find our strength, in the moment of rest we reclaim our power to rise again with clarity, with purpose and with renewed energy.”

As a cancer survivor, Rajbally emphasised the importance of early detection.

She urged people to be proactive in caring for their bodies and to have a proactive mindset about health.

Rajbally also debunked the myth that many people have which is the idea that they are too young to have cancer.

“Statistics have said that many women who are under the age of 40 are diagnosed with breast cancer,” Rajbally said.

Guest received goodie bags that were sponsored by Dove, Futurelife, Oh So Heavenly, Hollard, Lelive, and Sorbet.

Exciting prizes, including a "best dressed" prize of a stunning Durban flying dress photo-shoot were awarded, celebrating the spirit of the event.

Other prizes included luxurious items sponsored by Estee Lauder, Moroccan Oil, Jockey, Sphinx Beauty, Aldo, and Radmed, who graciously sponsored a mammogram for one lucky lady.

Fara Hamid, Marketing Manager of Radisson Blu Hotel Durban Umhlanga said: "This luncheon was a beautiful reminder of the strength of community.
