EFF has declined the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s invitation to attend its first-anniversary celebration in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) this weekend.
Speaking to the media during a press conference on Thursday, secretary-general Marshall Dlamini said they did not receive the invitation from MKP as it was announced.
“We did not receive an invitation and we will not attend the event,” he said.
The MKP celebrations will be held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday. Preparations have been under way throughout the week.
MKP recently organised mini rallies in Gauteng and Mpumalanga to celebrate their establishment.
On Wednesday, MKP secretary-general Floyd Shivambu said they invited all members of the progressive caucus including the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
He stated that the parties would be allowed to convey their messages of support.
Shivambu said they only invited the caucus members because they shared a similar interest in politics and also their approach to regaining the country’s independence.
In a statement on Thursday, MKP extended its well wishes to the EFF leadership and members ahead of their elective conference this weekend as well.
The EFF’s national people’s assembly will be held at the Nasrec Expo Centre, Soweto in Johannesburg.
“We commend the consistency and staying power of the Economic Freedom Fighters who have been in existence for 11 years.
“As the Progressive Caucus, we stand united in dismantling the imperial system and will continue to fight for the reclamation of our dignity, land, mineral resources, and the nationalisation of mines.
“On the occasion of the National People's Assembly, we would like to further express our good wishes to our partner in the progressive agenda of the total emancipation of our people,” MKP said.
African Transformation Movement (ATM) also wished the EFF best in its conference.
