A multi-disciplinary task force, led by the Crime Intelligence Kidnapping Team, successfully rescued a kidnapped Portuguese businessman in Westdene, Johannesburg, on Saturday, March 15 2025.

A 26-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested during the operation.

The businessman was abducted on 11 March 2025 after dropping off an employee in Rewlatch.

The kidnappers later demanded a ransom for his release.

Acting on intelligence reports, a specialised team comprising members from the National and Gauteng Crime Intelligence Kidnapping Teams, the Special Task Force, Cyber Security, and the Soweto Hostage Negotiation Team conducted a tactical raid on a property in Westdene.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim unharmed and apprehended the suspect. Investigations are ongoing, and additional arrests are expected.

The suspect will appear in court next week.
