Atlantis, a small town just outside Cape Town has been hit hard by gun violence and the murder of the eighth person to die in less than two weeks occurred at the weekend.

The area has been plagued by gun violence and the latest shooting incident claimed the life of a 15-year-old prominent soccer player and TikToker in Extension 13.

Tributes poured in across social media platforms for the teenager as many condemned the shootings taking place in the small town.

The Western Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

Atlantis police responded to a complaint on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Upon arrival in Royal George Street at around 8.10pm, they found the body of a young male who sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The unknown suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is still under investigation,” Swartbooi said.

Police have urged anyone with information on the incident to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

On Tuesday, October 29, in the same area, a 24-year-old man was gunned down.

The motive in this incident is believed to be gang-related.

“Members attended to a shooting incident at the mentioned address, and on arrival found the 24-year-old male laying on the pavement with a gunshot wound to the head. Circumstances surrounding this shooting incident are under investigation. The motive for this attack is believed to be gang-related,” police said.

A 15-year-old suspect was arrested.

At the weekend, the five people who were gunned down while heading home from Silverstream Beach on Wednesday, October 23, were laid to rest. Five others were injured during the shooting.
