Lamborghini’s local importer ripped the covers off the Italian brand’s all-new Temerario supercar at an event held in Johannesburg this week.
Replacing the Huracán as the marque’s ‘entry-level’ supercar, the Temerario ushers in a new hybrid powertrain and will hit showrooms at an eye-watering price of R7,525,000.
The newcomer swaps its predecessor’s normally aspirated V10 for a brand new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 motor that pairs with three electric motors to deliver total outputs of 677kW and 730Nm. That's sufficient, Lamborghini says, to thrust it from zero to 100km/h in 2.7 seconds.
Despite being turbocharged, the V8 motor revs up to an impressive 10,000rpm, with peak power produced in the range between 9,000 and 9,750rpm. An electric motor, positioned between the petrol motor and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, allows for instantaneous and lag-free acceleration off the mark.
The two axial flow electric motors positioned on the front axle, produce a combined 220kW and enable all-wheel drive when additional traction and power is required.
"Temerario offers an innovative and emotional driving experience at the same time. The e-4WD system including real torque vectoring is a perfect combination," says Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer, Rouven Mohr.
"On the one hand we have a car that is absolutely precise and effective on the track, on the other we have a more typically rear-wheel drive character, oriented towards maximum involvement for the driver."

Drivers can select between 13 driving experience modes via rotors on the steering wheel, including Città, Strada, Sport, Corsa and Corsa Plus, while pressing the “checkered flag” button for two seconds activates Launch Control.
The cabin boasts an edgy design befitting a supercar, but it is more digitised with three screens, including a ‘co-pilot’ screen that relays driving information to the front passenger. Carbon fibre double-shell sports sheets are offered as an option.
“South Africa is an exciting and rapidly growing market for Automobili Lamborghini, and we are thrilled to introduce the Temerario in Johannesburg,” said Temerario Product Line Director Paolo Racchetti.
“This super sports car sets a new benchmark in power, performance, and unmistakable Lamborghini presence - qualities our clients have been eagerly anticipating.”
