Opel is about to enter the lucrative (read: high profit margin) 'boutique hatch' sector with a little four-seater called the Adam and it says the car is not named after anything in particular. It's just coincidental that Opel's founder was called Adam.
Insiders describe it as looking “modern and muscular” but we'll have to take their word for it until the car is revealed at the Paris Motor Show in late September, the disguised prototype you see here being all we can show you for now.
Measuring 3.7 metres in length, the Adam is longer than a Fiat 500 but slightly shorter than the Mini.
MODERN MINI
Like these aforementioned trendy hatches, the Adam will be highly customizable - Opel in fact claiming its owners will be able to personalize the Adam in more ways than with any other car.
What makes the Adam different, however, is that its styling will belong to the modern era, Opel describing it as looking “muscular and modern”.
That's as much as the Rüsselsheim clan is prepared to divulge for now, but other sources speak of a new range of direct injection petrol and diesel motors ranging from a 3-cylinder 1-litre to a 1.4-litre four-pot.
AND OPC?
Yet what actually piques our interest is speculation about a 1.6-litre turbo mill for the flagship, which will surely be an OPC with a potentially bigger sting in the tail than Abarth's bambino.
