Rüsselsheim, Germany - Until now, Adam hasn't really been regarded as much more than a fashion accessory, but now the smallest Opel looks set to become a player in pocket rocket circles.
Opel has just revealed the Adam S Concept, which the company says is a “close-to-production” model that will spawn the king of the Adam castle.
While it doesn't pretend to rival the larger Fiesta ST and friends, the most muscular Adam will at least give the similarly-sized Abarth Fiat 500 a run for its money. In fact, the Opel's 110kW/220Nm 1.4-litre turbopetrol engine positions it neatly between the 99kW Abarth and 118kW Abarth Esseesse.
The Adam's 1.4T motor is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and although no acceleration times have been divulged as yet, Opel is claiming a 220km/h top speed.
To keep Adam's newfound urge in check, Opel has developed a performance chassis and fitted OPC performance 'S' brake discs inside the arch-filling 18-inch alloy wheels.
Other distinguishing features include a front lip spoiler, side sill mouldings, extended rear bumper cut-out for the tail pipe, bespoke rear spoiler and a carbon look for the grille and door mirrors.
The racy cabin is kitted out with front Recaro Performance seats with integrated head rests, as well as distinctive red and white 'flashes' on the instrument and door panels.
