The original Opel Calibra was the world's most aerodynamic car when it was launched in Europe way back in 1989 and arguably one of the most stylish too.
Unfortunately Opel never replaced this vehicle but now the German carmaker has confirmed that it will be resurrected in modern form.
Just like the original Calibra was based on the mid-sized Vectra, it is most likely that the new Calibra will share its platform with the Vectra's replacement, the sophisticated Opel Insignia.
The new Calibra is expected to take its styling inspiration from Opel's GTC concept of 2007, which it self was intended to preview the Insignia.
Although there is currently no confirmation on when it will be launched or what will power it, it is inevitable that the range topper will inherit the Insignia OPC's 239kW 2.8-litre turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive system.
