Paris - Renault is getting ready to launch its first true C-segment crossover.
As the first step in a drawn-out social media teaser campaign that will culminate in a full reveal on February 2, Renault has announced that its new baby will be called the Kadjar.
Though not much else has been officially confirmed by Renault, sources abroad report that the Kadjar will be quite closely based on alliance partner Nissan's Qashqai crossover, thus it'll be formed around the new CMF modular architecture.
Engine choices are likely to include a 1.2-litre turbopetrol and turbodiesels in 1.5- and 1.6-litre guise.
In design terms, the Kadjar will reportedly take most of its inspiration from its Captur smaller brother.
But what's with that name?
The 'Kad' part, according to Renault, is derived from the word 'quad' and meant to evoke images of a go-anywhere four-wheeled vehicle. 'Jar' comes from the French words 'agile' and 'jaillir', and as any good French dictionary will tell you, the latter means to suddenly emerge from somewhere.
