Geneva Motor Show - Jaguar's all-new sports sedan is nearly ready to take on the world, but the Coventry boys stopped short of unveiling it at the Swiss show.
Instead Jaguar released a teaser picture that reveals its frontal style and officially gave it a name: XE.
As that suggests, the new sedan slots beneath the Jaguar XF and, given the advanced technology that it brings to the premium party, we imagine they'll position it at the upper end of the 3 Series segment.
To that end, the XE will be built around Jaguar's all-new lightweight architecture, making it the first aluminium monocoque car in its class.
Power for the base models will be provided by a new family of highly efficient four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, dubbed Ingenium.
The engine details will be disclosed when Jaguar fully reveals the XE later this year but we do know that the sedan will cater for a wide range of desires - the most efficient model emitting less than 100g/km of CO2 and the quickest version capable of reaching over 300km/h.
Jaguar's Vehicle Line Director, Kevin Stride, promises nothing less than a segment leader:
“The engineering development of the XE has focused on delivering customers with the most advanced, efficient and refined sports sedan in its class. We are excited about our progress to date and are looking forward to soon being able to demonstrate what we have achieved.”
Global sales are scheduled to kick-off around the middle of 2015.
