Johannesburg Motor Show - visitors to Africa's premier auto expo, on now at Nasrec, will be the first South Africans to see the all-new Accord, flagship of Honda's 2014 range.
The new Accord's distinctive look is mostly due to its length - or lack of it. It's significantly shorter overall than its predecessor, while using clever packaging create more interior space in every dimension - especially for rear passengers.
A completely new, multiple-display dashboard and touch-friendly surfaces everywhere go a long way towards countering criticisms of the current Civic and its predecessor in terms of interior design and finish.
SAFETY FIRST
Honda has combined an array of safety features into what it calls the Advanced Driver Assist System, integrating adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and a collision mitigation braking system with industry-standard ABS, electronic brake-force distribution and emergency brake assistance, electronic stability control and multiple airbags.
NUTS AND BOLTS
The new Accord will be available in South Africa with a choice of two four-cylinder petrol engines - an entry-level two-litre i-VTEC rated at 115kW and 192Nm, or a 2.4-litre i-VTEC with 129kW and 225Nm - and a range-topping 3.5-litre petrol V6 boasting 206kW and 339Nm.
It will be officially launched in South Africa during the course of 2014, says Honda SA, promising more detailed information on the model line-up, technical specification, standard features and pricing closer to launch date.
