Given that there aren't any truly affordable pocket rockets on the market anymore, could Chevrolet be onto something with is new Spark RS concept?

Set to be revealed at the Sema show in Las Vegas on November 3, this Chevy wants us to imagine something that's sorely lacking in the city-car segment - a warm performer with the style to match.

GM is forcing us to use our imagination in more ways than one, however, having failed to tell us what's under the bonnet of this design study, which is being considered for production as the company gauges public reaction.

The hottest possibility would be GM's latest 1.4-litre turbopetrol engine, which produces 110kW in the Opel Adam S, although the company's 85kW 1-litre turbopetrol three-pot could prove a more budget-friendly alternative.

The Spark RS certainly looks the speedy part, sporting 17-inch Corvette-inspired wheels, Dark Liquid Switchback Silver paint, a carbon front splitter and side skirts.

The concept is based on the latest-generation Spark that was announced abroad earlier this year. At this stage GMSA won't tell us when the new Spark will hit our shores.
