London - Women on the London Underground are being targeted by an individual or group that claims to “hate and resent” overweight people as victims are handed cards telling them they are “fat, ugly humans”.
NHS worker Karla Florish, 30, posted a message on social media after receiving a card from a stranger at Warren Street while travelling on the Tube on Saturday. Another woman was handed a card at Oxford Circus yesterday.
One side of the card, from “Overweight Haters Ltd” says the word “fat” in large print.
The flipside says: “It's really not glandular, it's your gluttony.. Our organisation hates and resents fat people. We object to the enormous amount of food resources you consume while half the world starves. We disapprove of your wasting NHS money to treat your selfish greed.”
The card went on: “We also object to that the beatiful (sic) pig is used as an insult. You are not a pig. You are a fat, ugly human.”
Ms Florish, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, said the action was “hateful and cowardly and could potentially upset people struggling with confidence”.
Writing on Facebook, Ms Florish said she was “smaller than the national average and not exactly obese”, and wanted people to share the note to express their outrage.
British Transport Police said they had been made aware of the campaign and urged any passengers who had been targeted to get in touch.
